September 9th, 2008
Dear Members
This comes to remind you that our fourteenth Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 18th. There will be the usual reports and the speaker will be our President, Dr Simon Winterton, but, this year his address will be at the start of the meeting – at between 7.00 and 7.15 pm -. before the usual reports. So, we invite you to be with us, seated, by about 6.55pm – we’ll have a break for tea or coffee when Dr Winterton has finished.
The other purpose of the meeting is to elect a committee for the forthcoming year. At present, we have only nine members out of a possible twelve; you may remember that Felix Armstrong died at the beginning of this year. Most of us are prepared to serve for another year, but it would be a comfort to recruit some suitable, younger officers to continue the work we have done for so many years – in the case of Richard and me for thirteen years! If you think you have read all this before, you are absolutely right! I’m copying this from last year’s letter! Most of the spade work has been done: we secured funding for rehabilitation courses here in Blandford – now in the capable hands of the Cardiac Dept of Dorchester County Hospital; we established continuing exercise classes – now provided by “Knees Up” in Blandford; we have a flourishing rambling group; we have produced, year upon year, programmes of monthly meetings which have been well attended; Betty has set up our very own Web-site and would love some contributions. But some of these things need continual organising, so please! - if you would be interested in joining us, telephone me on 01258 860179 before 15th September! I have lost count of the number of times that I have made this appeal and we are becoming desperate!
We look forward to welcoming you at the earlier time next Thursday. Remember that Dr Winterton is not to be missed if you are interested in cardiology in Dorset!
Hoping to see you at the AGM!
Sincerely,
Isabel Weiner
